Just ten days later, he smashed the 5,000-meter world record at the same venue, crossing the finish line in 13 minutes and 8.4 seconds.

Rono’s remarkable run continued as he broke the world record for the 3,000 meters in Oslo, Norway, on June 16, 1978, with a time of 7 minutes and 32.1 seconds. Finally, on August 11, 1978, he capped off his incredible streak by setting a new world record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at Zurich, Switzerland, finishing in 8 minutes and 5.4 seconds.
