Four students sustained injuries after gunshots were fired in the parking lot of Benjamin E. Mays High School in Atlanta on Wednesday afternoon, according to reports.
The victims, identified as three 17-year-olds and one 18-year-old, were immediately rushed to a local hospital and are expected to make a full recovery, as confirmed by the authorities. Fortunately, no other individuals, including students, faculty, or staff, were harmed in the incident, as stated in a press release issued by the school district.
The Atlanta Police Department has delegated the lead investigation of the shooting to the Atlanta Public Schools Police Department. However, the latter declined to provide any comments regarding the incident.
In light of the incident, all after-school activities have been canceled, but classes are set to resume as scheduled on Thursday, as assured by the school district.

Are any suspects being questioned in connection with the shooting?
Immediately following the incident, law enforcement initiated a search for a vehicle that was reportedly present in the parking lot during the shooting. Atlanta Police Major Ralph Woolfolk confirmed during a news conference held on Wednesday evening that they were able to apprehend the suspected vehicle promptly.
Upon inspecting the vehicle, which was stopped approximately five miles away from the school, authorities discovered a 35-year-old woman, a 17-year-old girl, and another male individual. All three individuals were taken into custody for questioning and have been fully cooperative with investigators, according to Woolfolk’s statement.
As of now, no charges have been filed, and the identities of all individuals involved in the incident have not been disclosed to the public.

Authorities have revealed that a physical altercation erupted at approximately 4 p.m., shortly after the students were dismissed for the day. This altercation escalated and resulted in the firing of gunshots.

The shooting incident at Benjamin E. Mays High School in Atlanta follows two other incidents of gunfire that occurred on the same day within the United States. One of these incidents took place during the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl victory parade.

During the Chiefs parade, one fatality and 21 injuries were reported. Eight of the victims sustained life-threatening injuries, while seven others were left with injuries considered to be immediately life-threatening. An additional six individuals suffered minor injuries, according to Interim Fire Chief Ross Grundyson’s statement during a press conference.
Currently, three individuals have been detained in connection with the Chiefs parade shooting, according to Police Chief Stacey Graves.
In Washington, D.C., three law enforcement officers were injured, including one who sustained gunshot wounds, when they were fired upon by a suspect inside a residence where an animal cruelty warrant was being served. The Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating whether the officers engaged in a gunfire exchange with the suspect, stated Police Chief Pamela Smith.
Coincidentally, Wednesday also marked the sixth anniversary of the tragic shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, where 17 lives were lost.
