Teutopolis, IL Man Pronounced Dead at HSHS St. Anthony Hospital

Teutopolis, IL-(Effingham Radio) – On February 13, 2024, a tragic incident occurred in rural Dieterich, Illinois, resulting in the death of a 63-year-old man identified as Randy Funneman from Teutopolis. The incident took place at approximately 12:40 pm when emergency services received a call reporting an unresponsive male at a residence on 1700th Street.

Responding swiftly to the distress call, Rural Med EMS and Watson Fire Department arrived at the scene and immediately provided medical assistance to the victim. Randy Funneman was then transported to the HSHS St. Anthony Hospital Emergency Room in Effingham, Illinois. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of the medical professionals, Funneman succumbed to his condition at 2:34 pm.

Upon receiving notification of the incident, Coroner Kim Rhodes rushed to the Emergency Room to investigate the circumstances surrounding Funneman’s death. The preliminary investigation suggests that Funneman suffered a sudden medical emergency, causing him to collapse.

To establish a comprehensive understanding of the incident, the Coroner’s office obtained Funneman’s medical records and collected toxicology samples. The samples will undergo testing to determine if any substances contributed to the medical emergency. The results of the toxicology test are expected within 30 days.

As of now, the Effingham County Coroner’s Office has taken charge of the ongoing investigation into Randy Funneman’s untimely demise. The dedicated team of professionals will meticulously examine all available evidence to ascertain the cause and circumstances surrounding the incident.
