A devastating accident occurred on Monday afternoon in La Porte County, claiming the life of a South Bend woman. The incident took place at the intersection of U.S. 20 and Wilhelm Road, leaving one person dead and another injured.

Details of the Crash

At approximately 1:25 p.m., La Porte County Sheriff’s deputies rushed to the scene following reports of a collision. According to the initial investigation, a 2008 Chevrolet passenger vehicle was traveling westbound on U.S. 20 in the driving lane. For reasons yet to be determined, the vehicle suddenly veered to the right, veering off the north side of U.S. 20 and subsequently leaving the roadway. It continued its trajectory west until colliding with a tree situated on the northwest corner of U.S. 20 and Wilhelm Road.

Victims of the Accident

The driver of the vehicle, identified as 40-year-old Lashea C. Bird from South Bend, Indiana, suffered an upper body injury as a result of the crash. She was immediately transported to a regional hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Tragically, the front seat passenger, 33-year-old Kendra L. Murphy, also hailing from South Bend, did not survive the collision. She was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities.
