Police say arrests connected

TROY — The Vermont State Police have made significant progress in their investigation into the murder of Kayla Wright. While initially investigating suspected drug trafficking, police came across crucial information that appears to be connected to Wright’s tragic murder.

Wright, a 29-year-old resident of Derby, was reported missing on February 2. It was on February 6 that a toolbox, similar to the kind often found mounted in the bed of a pickup truck, was discovered on a sandbar in the Missisquoi River near Big Falls. Shockingly, inside the toolbox, police found the lifeless body of a woman, later identified as Wright.

The Chief Medical Examiner’s office conducted an autopsy on Wright’s body and determined that she died from a bullet wound to the head, clearly indicating she was the victim of a homicide. The investigation is ongoing, and the police are leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of justice for Kayla Wright.

Authorities have executed a search warrant at the Troy home of Thomas and Bryanna Rooney, and it is believed that this search has yielded crucial evidence related to the murder investigation. Cruisers from the Vermont State Police and Orleans County Sheriff’s Department were seen outside the Rooney residence during the search, as officers meticulously combed the property.
