The Washoe County coroner identifies victim in Stead double homicide

The Washoe County coroner has officially identified one of the victims in the tragic double homicide that occurred in Stead earlier this month. The victim has been identified as 39-year-old Justin Reid, who was the father of the suspected shooter, 17-year-old Mashenka Reid. The teenager is now facing murder charges for the incident, which also claimed the life of her younger brother.

New details emerge in the north Reno double homicide case

Further information has surfaced regarding the double homicide that took place in north Reno on February 12, 2024. According to an arrest report from the Reno Police Department, the suspect, Mashenka Reid, made a chilling statement to a 911 dispatcher, confessing her actions. When asked about the incident, Reid allegedly stated, “I just couldn’t resist the urge to kill somebody.”

Upon arrival at the scene on Silver Sky Parkway, officers discovered the lifeless bodies of Reid’s father and younger brother inside the apartment. However, Reid’s sister was found alive in a locked bedroom after an officer forcibly entered the room.

The arrest report provides a detailed timeline of events surrounding the double homicide. A neighbor was the first to report the shootings after hearing muffled gunshots and pleas for help. Subsequently, Mashenka Reid called 911 and admitted to shooting both her father and brother.

Reid revealed that she used a Walther PPS handgun in the crime and dropped it inside the apartment. The first responding officer detained Reid while ensuring the safety of others in the vicinity. Soon after, REMSA arrived at the scene and pronounced Reid’s father and brother deceased.

Following her arrest, Mashenka Reid was taken to the main station of the Reno Police Department. There, she was read the juvenile Miranda Admonishment but declined to speak with law enforcement.

A suspect has been apprehended in connection with the double homicide that occurred in north Reno. 17-year-old Mashenka Reid was booked on two counts of open murder the day after the incident, which took place on Silver Sky Parkway.

On Friday afternoon, the Reno Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at a residence on Silver Sky Parkway. Upon arrival, officers discovered the suspect and two deceased individuals.
