48-Year-Old Man Seriously Injured After Evading Police in Newtown, Ohio

A 48-year-old man, identified as Bradford Henry, sustained serious injuries on Tuesday night when he rolled over his vehicle multiple times while attempting to flee from the police, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred at around 9:30 p.m. when sheriff’s deputies spotted a driver traveling at a high speed of 90 mph in a westbound direction on Beechmont Avenue. The deputy initiated a pursuit but was unable to catch up with the vehicle due to its dangerous driving and excessive speed. However, the deputies managed to locate the vehicle a second time on Beechmont Avenue near Corbly Road in Mt. Washington, initiating another pursuit that ended shortly after.

Deputies continued to follow the vehicle from a distance as it turned onto Batavia Pike. During this time, they were able to obtain the license plate information of the vehicle. A third pursuit was then initiated into Newtown, but deputies once again had to slow down due to the driver’s dangerous behavior, including crossing the double yellow line.

As the driver, Bradford Henry, attempted to evade the police, he nearly collided with additional police units who were ordering him to stop. Ignoring the warnings, Henry drove back down Batavia Pike without headlights. It was during this reckless maneuver that he lost control of his vehicle, resulting in it rolling over multiple times in the area of 6620 Batavia Pike.

Emergency responders had to mechanically extricate Henry from the wreckage, and he was subsequently airlifted to UC Medical Center in “serious condition,” as confirmed by the sheriff’s office. Despite wearing a seatbelt, speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors in the crash, which is currently under investigation.

Following his treatment at the hospital, a warrant was issued for Henry’s arrest by the sheriff’s office. He is facing charges of failure to comply with the order or signal of law enforcement, classified as a third-degree felony, as well as OVI (Operating a Vehicle Impaired), classified as a first-degree misdemeanor. Henry is now in custody at the Hamilton County Jail.

Ongoing Investigation

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into the incident to gather more information and determine the exact circumstances surrounding the crash. Authorities will be examining evidence, including witness statements, the vehicle’s condition, and any available surveillance footage, to piece together a comprehensive understanding of the events leading up to the accident.

The sheriff’s office is urging anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward and assist with the investigation. Providing crucial details or eyewitness accounts can greatly aid law enforcement in their efforts to establish a clear timeline and accurately assess the factors contributing to the crash.

The serious nature of this incident serves as a reminder of the potential consequences of reckless driving and attempting to evade law enforcement. Such actions not only endanger the lives of those involved but also pose a significant threat to the safety of other road users and the community as a whole.
