Rampur Tragedy: Death Toll Rises to 10 in Palpa Jeep Accident

RAMPUR, FEBRUARY 14 – The tragic jeep accident in Palpa on Tuesday has claimed the lives of 10 individuals, as confirmed by local authorities. Out of the total victims, eight lost their lives on the spot, while two succumbed to their injuries during treatment at Lumbini Medical College Prabhas. Additionally, the unfortunate incident left 18 people injured. The District Police Office (DPO) in Palpa has successfully identified all the casualties.

The authorities, however, faced difficulty in verifying the names and addresses of the deceased, as their family members had not arrived until late night yesterday, according to the police.

According to the District Police Office (DPO) in Palpa, the tragic accident occurred when a passenger jeep, with registration number Lu 1 Ja 2371, was en route from Dumre in Tanahu district to Chidis, Kusumkhola in Palpa. The accident took place specifically at Masyam in Tinau rural municipality-6 of the district. As a result of the mishap, the injured individuals were promptly transferred to Lumbini Medical College in Palpa for immediate medical attention.

The ill-fated jeep veered off the road and plunged approximately 300 metres down the rough inner road near Eco Farm House at Masyam. The incident has sent shockwaves throughout the region, leaving the local community in mourning.

The victims of this tragic accident have been identified as 60-year-old Yan Kumari Panta, 39-year-old Ram Bahadur Aslami, 67-year-old Krishna Bahadur Aslami, and 28-year-old Urmila Aslami from Masyam, Tinau rural municipality-6. Furthermore, Chandra Ranapal (70) and Chuna Ranapal (60) from Tamnagar, Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City-14, Rupandehi district, were among the unfortunate casualties.

In addition, the deceased include 20-year-old Gita Sunar from Khursane, Tinau-2, 66-year-old Bishnukala Kami, and 65-year-old Dil Kumari Sunar from Khyaha, Ribdikot rural municipality-1, and 29-year-old Dilmaya GC from Devdaha Municipality-5, Rupandehi. Inspector Sugandha Shrestha, the Information Officer at the District Police Office in Palpa, confirmed these details.

The authorities have taken immediate action and arrested the jeep driver, 45-year-old Dan Bahadur Chidi from Tansen Municipality-10, for further investigation into the incident.

This tragic event has sent shockwaves across the region, leaving the local community devastated. The families of the victims are yet to come to terms with this heart-wrenching loss.
