Two Dead and One Hospitalized from Suspected Carbon Monoxide Poisoning in Princeton

Tragedy struck in Princeton, a town located approximately 50 miles north of Minneapolis, as two individuals lost their lives and another remains hospitalized due to suspected carbon monoxide poisoning. The incident occurred in Princeton Township, prompting a response from the Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office after receiving a report of a possible overdose on Sunday evening.

Upon arrival at the scene shortly after 8 p.m., law enforcement officers discovered the lifeless body of a 27-year-old man named Marcos Larson in an upstairs bedroom. Alongside him, a semi-conscious dog was also found. In a separate area of the house, deputies discovered the deceased bodies of a woman and a cat. As of now, the woman’s identity has not been disclosed.

It was the woman who dialed emergency services, and she was subsequently transported to a local hospital in Princeton. Unfortunately, no updates regarding her condition have been provided at this time.

An investigation conducted by a fire and rescue crew revealed the presence of a lethal amount of carbon monoxide within the residence. Sheriff Kyle Burton of Mille Lacs County shed light on the preliminary findings, stating that it appeared the occupants had resorted to using propane heaters and gas-powered generators to run space heaters for warmth, as the house lacked electricity and running water.

Reflecting on this devastating incident, Sheriff Burton emphasized the importance of recognizing the risks associated with carbon monoxide. He cautioned against operating combustion engines within enclosed spaces and urged homeowners to equip their properties with functional carbon monoxide alarms, as they serve as crucial early warning systems for dangerous levels of the toxic gas.
