Cyclist Fatally Struck by New Jersey State Trooper identified

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ — Authorities have identified the cyclist who was tragically struck and killed by a New Jersey state trooper in Hackettstown last week. The victim has been identified as Raul L. Diaz, a 59-year-old resident of Long Valley in Morris County.

Details of the Incident

The collision occurred at approximately 6 a.m. on Monday, February 5th. Sergeant First Class Kesene Grier, driving an unmarked police SUV, collided with Diaz on Willow Grove Street near Brook Hollow Drive. Emergency responders rushed Diaz to Hackettstown Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 7:17 a.m.

Investigation Underway

The circumstances surrounding the crash are currently under investigation by the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office. The office has stated that it is standard protocol for an independent investigation to be conducted whenever a death occurs during an encounter with law enforcement.
