TAZEWELL COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) – A tragic incident occurred in Tazewell County on January 14, resulting in the death of a man and causing serious injuries to a teenage passenger. The Virginia State Police reported that the crash was caused by drunk driving.

Details of the Crash

The unfortunate incident took place at approximately 12:19 a.m. on Rt. 460, a major road in Tazewell County. It was on this stretch of road that 29-year-old Michael Meadows, a resident of Cedar Bluff, was operating a TC Scion, heading west.

Tragically, Meadows lost control of the vehicle, veering off the left side of the road. The TC Scion collided with a guardrail before crossing Rt. 460 and crashing into an embankment.

The Victims

At the time of the accident, three individuals were passengers in the TC Scion. One of the passengers, identified as 20-year-old Allen Smith from Richlands, was seated in the backseat of the vehicle. Due to the impact of the crash, Smith was ejected from the car and sustained severe injuries.

Despite receiving immediate medical attention, Smith tragically succumbed to his injuries on February 2, according to the Virginia State Police. Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Furthermore, a 16-year-old male passenger also suffered significant injuries in the collision. However, the authorities have not provided any updates regarding the current condition of the teenager.

Fortunately, the third passenger in the vehicle emerged from the accident unscathed.

Driver’s Condition and Charges

Michael Meadows, the driver of the TC Scion, sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash. However, law enforcement officials charged him with driving under the influence (DUI).

Driving under the influence of alcohol or any other substances poses a significant danger to both the driver and other road users. This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences that can arise from such irresponsible actions.

The Virginia State Police continue to investigate the exact circumstances surrounding the crash to gather all necessary evidence and ensure that justice is served.
