Tragic Head-on Collision Claims the Lives of a Police Officer, Suspect, and Five Others in Limpopo

A fatal car accident in Limpopo on Sunday morning resulted in the tragic loss of a police officer, a suspect being transported, and five other individuals.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, a devastating car accident in Limpopo resulted in the deaths of seven people, including a police officer and a suspect who was under arrest.

Another police officer sustained injuries in the crash.

An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the collision, as stated by Limpopo police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe.

Preliminary findings indicate that a Renault sedan collided head-on with a police van traveling on the R101 from Mookgophong towards Mokopane.

Hadebe commented:

The sergeant driving the SAPS vehicle was rushed to the hospital and is currently receiving medical attention.

The deceased police officer has been identified as Constable MM Makwela, who was assigned to Naboomspruit police station.

“The identities of the deceased from the Renault sedan and the suspect will be released once their next of kin have been notified,” added Hadebe.
