Fourth Week of Trials Begins in Comanche County with Manslaughter, Accessory to Murder, and Child Sexual Abuse Cases

The fourth and final week of trials is set to begin on Monday in Comanche County, with a new batch of potential jurors being called to duty for the felony docket. This week’s trials will put manslaughter, accessory to murder, and child sexual abuse cases in the spotlight.

It is important to note that all cases are subject to change due to potential last-minute pleas or continuance.

Accessory to Murder Trial

On Monday, the trial of Tevin Jamal Anderson, a 30-year-old convicted killer, will commence in Comanche County Presiding Judge Emmit Tayloe’s court. Anderson is facing a count of accessory to first-degree murder for his involvement in the shooting death of Richard E. Anderson, 49, of Lawton, which occurred on April 18, 2021.

Zaire Ameri Brown, 19, of Lawton, has already pleaded guilty to felony counts of first-degree murder — deliberate intent and possession of a firearm after delinquent adjudication. Brown received a 25-year prison sentence for the murder count and an additional five years for the gun charge. According to records, Brown shot and killed Richard Anderson outside Phillips 66 on Cache Road. Surveillance footage revealed that a verbal argument between Tevin Anderson, Richard Anderson, and another man escalated, leading to the fatal shooting.

In January 2023, Tevin Anderson was found guilty of the premeditated shooting death of Jennifer Gibson, 47, on the same day as Richard Anderson’s murder. Anderson was also convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm, as he was on probation for a federal weapons charge at the time of the killing. During police interviews, Anderson admitted to shooting Gibson and claimed that “God told me to do that.” He referred to Gibson as “the devil” and stated that his mind was playing tricks on him.

First-Degree Manslaughter Trial

In District Judge Jay Walker’s courtroom, jury selection will begin on Tuesday for Henry Clarence Lilly III, a father accused of allowing their 3-year-old daughter to die from a 17-pound tumor in January 2019. Lilly is facing a count of first-degree manslaughter, which carries a punishment of four years to life in prison. Lilly’s wife, Bonnie Beth Mills-Lilly, 46, is also charged with the same crime.

The couple is accused of failing to provide medical care to their daughter, leading to her death. According to the State Medical Examiner’s autopsy report, the child, Bonnie Beth Lilly, died on January 3, 2019, as a result of rhabdomyosarcoma, a type of cancer that affects soft tissue, connective tissue, or bone. The report revealed that the 17-pound tumor comprised half of the girl’s body weight. Symptoms of rhabdomyosarcoma include persistent lumps or swelling, bulging of the eye or swollen eyelid, headaches, nausea, trouble urinating or having bowel movements, and bleeding from various body parts.

Comanche County Sheriff’s Office received a call on January 3, 2019, reporting that the girl was unconscious but breathing at a camper home near Lake Lawtonka. Responders discovered her and six other children living with her parents in a camper. The girl was rushed to a local hospital, where she ultimately succumbed to the tumor. As a result, the parents were arrested, and their other children were placed into the custody of the Department of Human Services.

The couple had initially been released on $60,000 bonds but was recommitted to jail in January 2021. However, in March 2021, they were released again on a reduced $40,000 bond. It is worth mentioning that the couple has since relocated to Archer, Florida. Bonnie Beth Mills-Lilly is expected to stand trial during the upcoming April/May jury trial docket.

Child Sexual Abuse Trial

In District Judge Scott D. Meaders’ court, jury selection will begin on Wednesday for the trial of James Joseph Jones, a 40-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl. Jones is facing two felony counts of lewd or indecent acts with a child under 16, which can result in a prison sentence ranging from three to 20 years.

The teenage girl informed her mother about the alleged sexual assault by Jones in October 2022, leading to the filing of charges. According to the warrant affidavit, the girl stated that Jones would coerce her into engaging in unwanted activities while her mother was at work. She mentioned that he inappropriately touched and kissed her body multiple times.

Records indicate that Jones has a prior felony conviction in Comanche County from January 2009 for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Since his initial court appearance in April 2023, Jones has been held on a $75,000 bond.

With these trials set to unfold in the coming week, the Comanche County judicial system aims to ensure justice is served and provide closure for the victims and their families.
