Tragic Accident Claims Life on Naito Parkway in Portland

Portland, United Kingdom (KATU) — A devastating accident on Naito Parkway in Portland has resulted in the loss of life, according to the Portland Police. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning, leaving the community in shock and mourning.

Driver identified and Initial Investigation

Authorities have identified the suspect driver as 46-year-old Jacob M. Tabor from Washington County. The preliminary investigation reveals that Tabor was operating a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta heading southbound on SW Naito Parkway when he was involved in a minor collision with another driver. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in this initial incident.

Attempt to Flee and Tragic Collision

Disturbingly, Tabor did not stop at the scene and instead chose to drive away from the accident. Moments later, tragedy struck when his vehicle collided with a 2001 Toyota Camry that had come to a stop at a red light at the intersection of SW Naito and SW Columbia Street. The Camry was occupied by three men, one of whom became trapped inside the vehicle due to the impact.

Swift Action and Life-Saving Efforts

Fortuitously, officers from Central Precinct were in the vicinity at the time and witnessed the aftermath of the crash. Acting swiftly, they immediately rendered aid to the victims while summoning paramedics for additional assistance. KATU News has learned that the officers performed CPR on the injured passenger until Portland Fire & Rescue arrived at the scene. All four individuals involved in the collision were rushed to nearby hospitals with serious injuries.

Tragic Loss and Ongoing Investigation

Despite the valiant efforts of the medical personnel, the passenger in the rear seat of the Camry tragically succumbed to their injuries on Saturday afternoon. The driver of the Camry continues to receive medical treatment for serious, yet non-life threatening injuries. Fortunately, the front seat passenger has been treated and released from the hospital.

Tabor, who is currently in police custody, received medical treatment before being released. He has since been transferred to Multnomah County Jail, facing charges that include DUII (alcohol) and second-degree assault. In light of the victim’s passing, authorities anticipate additional charges to be filed against Tabor.
