Two Dead After Plane Crash on I-75 in Collier County

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The Collier County Sheriff’s Office has released the identities of the two individuals who tragically lost their lives in a plane crash on I-75 in Collier County on Friday afternoon.

According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, the pilot of the aircraft, identified as Edward Daniel Murphy, aged 50, from Oakland Park, and the second in command, Ian Frederick Hofmann, aged 65, from Pompano Beach, were fatally injured in the accident.

The incident occurred when a small jet, a Bombardier Challenger 600 business jet, carrying a total of five individuals, crashed on the interstate near Naples at approximately 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The pilot had reportedly communicated a dual engine failure while in the vicinity of the Naples Airport, leading to the unfortunate accident.

The survivors of the crash have been identified as crew member Sydney Ann Bosmans, aged 27, from Jupiter, and passengers Aaron Baker, aged 35, from Ohio, and Audra Green, aged 23, also from Ohio. All survivors were promptly transported to a local hospital to receive medical treatment for their injuries sustained in the crash.

As a result of the incident, the northbound lanes of I-75 were temporarily closed for several hours, while the southbound lanes remain closed at the time of this report. The closure of the southbound lanes is anticipated to cause significant congestion and delays for motorists in the area.
