Washington, DC [US], February 10 (ANI): A 41-year-old Indian-origin man, Vivek Taneja, has tragically passed away in the United States after sustaining life-threatening injuries in an assault in downtown Washington, according to local police.

The incident occurred on February 2 at around 2:00 a.m. local time, as stated in the police report. Taneja was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment. However, despite the best efforts of medical professionals, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on February 7.

The Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, DC, is actively seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and locating the suspect involved in this homicide. They have released a statement urging anyone with information to come forward. The department is offering a reward of up to USD 25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Taneja’s death.

This unfortunate incident is part of a disturbing trend of attacks on Indians and Indian-Americans in the United States. Just a few days ago, another Indian student faced a brutal attack in Chicago. Videos circulating on social media show the victim, Syed Mazahir Ali, bleeding heavily as he describes the horrific incident. The Indian Consulate in Chicago is in contact with Ali and his family, offering support and assistance.

This incident follows the recent death of Shreyas Reddy, an Indian student in Cincinnati, Ohio. The cause of Reddy’s death remains unknown at this time. The Indian Consulate in New York is working closely with Reddy’s family and providing them with all necessary support.

Tragically, Taneja’s death marks the third death of an Indian student in a span of just one week. Neel Acharya, a student at Purdue University, was found dead on January 30 after being reported missing. Similarly, on January 29, Vivek Saini was brutally killed with a hammer by a homeless man inside a store in Lithonia, Georgia. A video of the incident went viral on social media.

These incidents highlight the urgent need for increased security measures and awareness to protect the Indian community in the United States. The Indian government and consulates are actively working to ensure the safety and well-being of Indian students and citizens living abroad.
