The Varthur police have made a significant breakthrough in their investigation into the death of nine-year-old Manya Damerla, who tragically lost her life due to electrocution in the swimming pool at Prestige Lakeside Habitat. The president of the residential complex, Debashish Sinha, along with six others, have been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

Details of the Unfortunate Incident

The incident occurred on the evening of December 29, 2023, when Manya was playing near the pool. Accidentally, she fell into the water, leading to her immediate distress. Despite being rushed to a nearby private hospital, the young girl could not be revived, and doctors pronounced her dead.

Manya’s father, Rajesh Kumar Damerla, filed a complaint with the Varthur police, alleging that his daughter’s death was a result of negligence on the part of the maintenance staff and electrician. He claimed that Manya had experienced an electric shock earlier and had even reported it to the concerned authorities, but no safety measures were taken, ultimately leading to the tragic incident.

The Arrested Individuals

The main accused in this case is Debashish Sinha, the president of the Home Owners’ Association at Prestige Lakeside Habitat. Alongside him, six others have also been arrested and identified as Safiq Rao, vice-president of Prestige Property Management, as well as the electricians, senior technicians, and swimming pool management team members Santosh Maharana, Gobinda Mandal, Bikas Kumar Paridha, Bhaktha Charan Pradhan, and Suresh Babu. The accused individuals have been booked under sections 149 (member of unlawful assembly guilty of an offence) and 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code.

According to the investigation agencies, it has been revealed that the apartment management and electricians were well aware of the presence of live electric current in the swimming pool. Shockingly, they failed to implement the necessary safety measures to prevent any potential danger. Tragically, when Manya stepped into the pool, she was immediately electrocuted, resulting in her untimely death, police officials have confirmed.
