Raigad police arrest three including woman for murder at Wadkhal lodge

Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Raigad has successfully apprehended three individuals who were planning to escape to Uttar Pradesh after committing a gruesome murder at a lodge in Wadkhal, Raigad district. The murder took place on Tuesday night at approximately 9 pm at Sawali Lodge in Wadkhal, following which the trio fled the scene.

The victim, identified as Dharmendra Kushwah (40) from Madhya Pradesh, worked at the lodge where the murder took place. The accused, Chandrajeet Jhankuram Bhardwaj (30), Harishankar Lalchand Rajbhar (19) from Uttar Pradesh, and Anjudevi Saroj Chauhan (32) from Jharkhand, ran a tea stall a few meters away from the lodge.

Bharadwaj and Chauhan were in a relationship and lived together in Wadkhal, while Rajbhar recently joined them in their accommodation. The victim’s cousin, who managed the Sawali Lodge, had gone to their hometown, leaving Kushwah temporarily in charge. On multiple occasions, Kushwah had engaged in physical intimacy with Chauhan, which angered Bharadwaj. A week ago, Bharadwaj had a heated argument with Kushwah and threatened to kill him, prompting Bharadwaj to purchase a new knife for the murder.

On Tuesday night, Bharadwaj instructed Chauhan to meet Kushwah in one of the lodge’s rooms. Bharadwaj and Rajbhar followed her to the room, and after a while, they forcefully entered the room with a knife. They pushed Kushwah to the ground, covered his mouth, and held him down while one of the accused slit his throat and mutilated his private parts.

“After the murder, the trio fled from the scene. The lodge was located on the first floor, with a restaurant on the ground floor where Kushwah often dined. When Kushwah didn’t show up for dinner by 10:30 pm, a hotel worker went to check on him and discovered his lifeless body in room number 115,” said Police Sub Inspector Vishal Shirke from LCB. After reviewing the CCTV footage, the police were able to identify the culprits.

“We obtained their mobile numbers, but they were switched off. We then searched their tea stall and found some identity cards belonging to the accused. We initiated a search operation and received information that they had hired a private vehicle to Pen. Upon reaching Pen, we were informed that they had boarded a state transport bus heading towards Panvel. We systematically checked each state transport bus heading in that direction and finally apprehended them on one of the buses. The accused were planning to flee to their respective native places,” said Police Inspector Balasaheb Khade from LCB.
