Tragic Death of Maintenance Worker at Coca-Cola Warehouse in North Carolina

A maintenance worker known for his infectious smile, Nathan Garrett Vanbeek, was tragically found dead after being electrocuted at a Coca-Cola warehouse in North Carolina. The incident occurred on Thursday, February 8, at the beverage distribution center in Clayton. The Clayton Police Department responded to the distressing scene and discovered Vanbeek’s lifeless body in the Fire Suppression Riser Room.

The 34-year-old victim, Nathan Garrett Vanbeek, was employed by Stoltz Management Company, responsible for maintenance work at the Coca-Cola center, according to a news release by the police department. Both the maintenance company and Coca-Cola have not yet responded to requests for comment from McClatchy News.

Authorities were alerted to the incident by a coworker who discovered Vanbeek’s body at the facility, located in Clayton, a town in Johnston County, approximately 15 miles southeast of Raleigh.

Upon conducting further investigation, the police determined that Vanbeek had been attempting to remove a heater fan from a wall inside the room when he was electrocuted.

Nathan Garrett Vanbeek is fondly remembered by his cousin, Amanda Guenther, as a man with an infectious smile and personality. Speaking to WNCN, Guenther shared that from a young age, Vanbeek expressed his desire to move to North Carolina, where he believed the weather was beautiful, hunting opportunities were abundant, and racing events were thrilling. Guenther expressed that Vanbeek was living his dream.

As the investigation into Vanbeek’s tragic death continues, the Occupational Safety and Health Division of the N.C. Department of Labor has been notified by the Clayton police. The department promptly assigned a compliance officer to commence an inspection of the accident/incident.
