FROM STAFF REPORTS

A South Carolina man wanted on fugitive warrants has been apprehended by the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office (ICSO) following an extensive investigation into a case of check fraud.

Timothy Pratt

Sheriff Darren Campbell confirmed the arrest of Timothy Scott Pratt, a 33-year-old resident of Chesterfield, South Carolina, in an official statement.

The investigation by the ICSO began on December 20, 2023, following a report from a local business owner regarding an incident of check fraud. According to the news release, the business owner informed authorities that a check sent to a different location had been stolen from the mail and subsequently cashed by an unauthorized individual.

Assigned to the ICSO Economic Crimes Division of the Special Victim’s Unit, Detective Craig Scannella took charge of the case. As part of his investigation, Detective Scannella obtained bank records and reviewed video surveillance footage, which clearly showed a suspect passing the altered check at a check cashing establishment, Sheriff Campbell stated.

During the course of the investigation, Detective Scannella received another report from a separate business involving the same suspect.

Based on the evidence gathered from video surveillance and other sources, Timothy Scott Pratt was positively identified as the prime suspect. Subsequently, Detective Scannella obtained arrest warrants charging Pratt with two counts of felony obtaining property by false pretenses and two counts of felony forgery.

On February 1, law enforcement located Pratt in Mooresville while he was attempting to cash another altered check at a local business. The authorities promptly arrested him and transported him to the Iredell County Detention Center, where he was served with seven outstanding warrants, including three fugitive warrants from other states.

Currently, Pratt is being held at the Iredell County Detention Center under a secured bond of $350,500.

The ICSO expressed its gratitude to the Mooresville Police Department for their valuable assistance during the course of the investigation.
