Manhunt Underway in Tennessee for Suspect in Shooting of Two Deputies

Authorities search for Kenneth DeHart after Deputy Greg McCowan is killed and Deputy Shelby Eggers is injured

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT/Gray News) – A manhunt is currently underway in Maryville, Tennessee, as authorities search for Kenneth DeHart, the suspect in the shooting of two Blount County deputies. The incident occurred during a routine traffic stop on Sevierville Road, resulting in the tragic death of Deputy Greg McCowan and the injury of Deputy Shelby Eggers.

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), DeHart, the suspect, refused to cooperate with deputies and refused to exit the vehicle. Despite attempts to subdue him using a stun device, DeHart remained unyielding. In a sudden turn of events, DeHart pulled out a firearm and fired shots, fatally striking Deputy McCowan and injuring Deputy Eggers. Deputy Eggers has since been released from the hospital and is recovering at home.
