Delaware State Police Arrest 24-Year-Old Kayla Manuszak for Multiple Child Abuse Charges

The Delaware State Police have apprehended 24-year-old Kayla Manuszak of Dover on Thursday following an ongoing investigation into multiple child abuse charges. Detectives are also seeking assistance in identifying potential victims associated with the investigation, urging the public to come forward with any relevant information.

Allegations of Physical Abuse at Hartly Learning Academy

On December 6, 2023, the Delaware State Police received a report from staff at Hartly Learning Academy, situated at 21 North Street in Hartly, regarding possible physical abuse inflicted upon a child by a former childcare employee, identified as Kayla Manuszak. The subsequent months-long investigation conducted by detectives revealed that between November 30, 2023, and December 4, 2023, Manuszak had allegedly subjected six infants under her care to physical abuse. The infants ranged in age from five to fourteen months. All the affected children have undergone medical evaluations and have received appropriate medical care.

Arrest and Charges

After an extensive investigation, law enforcement obtained a warrant for Kayla Manuszak’s arrest. On February 8, 2024, she turned herself in at Troop 3, where she was charged with 21 counts of Child Abuse 3rd Degree (Felony) and 14 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Judicial Proceedings and Incarceration

Following her arrest, Manuszak was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7. She was subsequently committed to Delores J. Baylor Correctional Institution in Wilmington, Delaware, on a cash bond amounting to $119,000.
