San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has identified a fourth victim and is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the sixth victim in the El Mirage mass shooting. The most recent victim has been identified as Jose Ruelas-Calderon, a 45-year-old resident of El Mirage. The fifth victim has also been identified, but authorities are withholding information until next of kin have been notified.

Sheriff’s investigators have released photos as they request the public’s assistance to identify the sixth victim of a multiple homicide that took place in January in Adelanto.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has released photos of the sixth victim, described as a Hispanic man aged between 30 and 60 years old. The man is approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighs 142 pounds, and has curly black hair and brown eyes. Notably, he has a tattoo of the word “Gio” or “Gia” on the left side of his chest.

In addition to the tattoo, the sixth victim also has a surgical plate in his right forearm and several scars. These scars include a large surgical scar on his right forearm that extends to the upper arm, a large linear scar on the right elbow and forearm, an irregularly shaped scar on the left forearm/elbow area, and a linear scar on the right thigh.

The previously identified victims of the El Mirage mass shooting are Baldemar Mondragon-Albarran, 34, of Adelanto; Franklin Noel Bonilla, 22, of Hesperia; and Kevin Dariel Bonilla, 25, of Hesperia.

San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officials announced the arrest of five suspects in the fatal shooting of six people in an unincorporated area of Adelanto, east of El Mirage.

The Defendants

The following defendants have been charged in connection with the shooting on January 23:

  • Toniel Baez-Duarte, 34, from Apple Valley
  • Jose Nicolas Hernandez-Sarabia, 33, from Adelanto
  • Mateo Baez Duarte, 24, from Apple Valley
  • Jose Gregorgio Hernandez-Sarabia, 34, from Adelanto
  • Jose Manuel Burgos Parra, 26, from Adelanto

Sergeant Michael Warrick, from the sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division’s Homicide Detail, stated that the suspects were apprehended following an extensive investigation. Multiple search warrants were executed in Apple Valley, Adelanto, and the Pinon Hills area of Los Angeles County.

On January 23, law enforcement officials responded to a 911 call from shooting victim Franklin Noel Bonilla, who reported being shot in the rural unincorporated desert area of Adelanto. Upon arrival, deputies discovered the bodies of five deceased men, with Bonilla’s body located nearby. The victims had all suffered from gunshot wounds, and four of them were partially burned.

During a press conference on January 29, Sheriff Shannon Dicus stated that the motive behind the murders was related to illegal cannabis activities in the area.
