Bay County Man Arrested for Assisting Runaway Teenager in Washington County

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – The Washington County Sheriff’s Office apprehended a 45-year-old Bay County man, William Wayne Knight, for allegedly aiding a 14-year-old juvenile runaway over the past weekend.

On February 5, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office was alerted about the missing juvenile and promptly disseminated a missing person flyer on their social media platforms. Later that day, the teenager reached out to family members through social media but refrained from disclosing his location.

On February 6, at approximately 8:30 a.m., deputies received a tip from the Bay County Sheriff’s Office indicating that the missing juvenile had been located at a motel in Bay County.

Police Spot Juvenile and Suspect at Motel

The Panama City Police Department, in collaboration with investigators, identified William Wayne Knight as the individual involved in the case. Authorities apprehended Knight at the motel where he was seen with the victim.

It was revealed that Knight had booked the motel room on February 2nd and had been in the company of the runaway juvenile since then. Additionally, witnesses reported seeing the pair together the following day, Saturday.

Safely Reuniting the Juvenile with Family

Thanks to the prompt actions of law enforcement, the juvenile was safely returned to his family. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office ensured a swift and secure reunion to alleviate concerns and provide support.

Arrest and Pending Extradition

Following his apprehension, William Wayne Knight was taken into custody and is currently held at the Bay County Jail awaiting extradition back to Washington County. He faces charges of interference with child custody.
