Suspect Arrested in Robbery and Carjacking After Police Pursuit in Colorado Springs

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) successfully apprehended a suspect involved in a robbery and carjacking after a high-speed pursuit and a precision immobilization technique (PIT) maneuver in the early hours of Friday, February 9.

The incident unfolded when CSPD officers responded to a distress call at approximately 1 a.m. The call originated from a gas station located in the 2400 block of Arlington Drive, just off South Circle Drive. The report indicated that a robbery had taken place, accompanied by a carjacking. The stolen vehicle was described as a 2006 Honda Pilot.

Swiftly taking action, law enforcement authorities thoroughly scanned the vicinity and, around 2 a.m., successfully located the stolen vehicle heading north on I-25. However, the situation escalated when the suspect behind the wheel ran a red light after exiting the interstate. Recognizing the need to protect public safety and apprehend the suspect, officers initiated a pursuit.

The pursuit continued until officers executed a low-speed PIT maneuver in the 12000 block of Oracle Boulevard, near Voyager and Middle Creek Parkways. The maneuver successfully disabled the suspect’s vehicle, bringing the chase to a safe conclusion.

Authorities have identified the driver of the stolen vehicle as 23-year-old Dexter Jackson. Jackson was the sole occupant of the Honda Pilot during the incident. Following his arrest, Jackson was transported to the Criminal Justice Center without any reported injuries.

Upon investigation, CSPD confirmed that Dexter Jackson was the same individual responsible for the robbery and carjacking. As a result, Jackson now faces multiple charges, including aggravated robbery, motor vehicle theft, vehicular eluding, and menacing.

It is worth noting that neither the suspect nor any law enforcement officers sustained injuries during the incident. The successful resolution of this dangerous situation highlights the professionalism and dedication of the Colorado Springs Police Department in ensuring the safety of the community.
