Truck Driver Identified in Fatal Crash with Florida Highway Patrol Trooper
The tragic incident that claimed the lives of a truck driver and a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) trooper on Friday has now been identified. The FHP has revealed that the truck driver was a 55-year-old man from Homestead named Arsenio Mas.
In order to provide a visual representation of Mas, images from his Facebook page have been approved by a family member for use by WPTV.
Unfortunately, no further information is available about the truck driver who tragically lost his life at the scene of the crash.
Initially, the FHP had decided not to release the name of the victim, citing respect for the family. However, they have now disclosed the identity of the truck driver.
The fatal crash occurred when Trooper Zachary Fink, 26, was in pursuit of a felon on Interstate 95 in St. Lucie County. The pursuit ended tragically with the collision between Fink’s cruiser and Mas’ truck, resulting in the loss of both lives.
Following the crash, the suspect, Michael Addison, 30, from Lauderdale Lakes, fled the scene, triggering a massive manhunt involving multiple law enforcement agencies.
The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office has released an arrest report detailing the actions of the suspect before and after the crash. The FHP has also provided limited information regarding the incident.
Addison is now facing several charges in connection with the deaths of Trooper Zachary Fink and the truck driver, Arsenio Mas.
Trooper Fink, a dedicated three-year veteran of the FHP, had initiated the pursuit when he noticed a white Kia traveling at speeds exceeding 100 mph in a reckless manner on I-95.
As the pursuit reached the area just south of Crosstown Parkway, the Kia attempted to evade capture by making a dangerous U-turn to drive north in the southbound lanes.
Unfortunately, this maneuver resulted in the fatal collision between Fink’s cruiser and Mas’ truck.
Fink was immediately airlifted to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital, but tragically succumbed to his injuries.
