Accident – Death – Obituary News : Three individuals have been apprehended in connection with the discovery of two bodies at the scene of a fire in Davenport. The Davenport Police have charged Devon B. Braet, Adriana M. Blake (Prieto), and Melisa M. Weber in relation to the ongoing homicide investigation at the 5200 block of Division Street.

Devon B. Braet, aged 34, and Adriana M. Blake (Prieto), aged 27, were previously taken into custody on separate charges and are currently being held. They have both been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, second-degree arson, two counts of abuse of a corpse, going armed with intent, unlawful use of a weapon, two counts of assault while participating in a felony causing serious injury, and possession of a controlled substance.

Melisa M. Weber, 49, was arrested on Wednesday and is now being held in the Scott County Jail. She is facing charges of aiding and abetting, including second-degree arson, two counts of abuse of a corpse, and accessory after the fact.

The investigation into this case is ongoing.

A fire broke out early in the morning on Tuesday, January 16, prompting the response of the Davenport Police and Fire departments to the 5200 block of North Division Street. Upon arrival, Davenport Fire crews discovered moderate smoke emanating from an apartment, which they promptly extinguished.

During a search of the apartment, firefighters tragically discovered the bodies of two individuals. The fire’s origin and the cause of death have been deemed as homicides. The deceased victims have been identified as 44-year-old Brian L. Goodwin and 44-year-old Amy M. Smith.

According to police affidavits, Devon B. Braet “willfully, deliberately, and with malice aforethought committed the act of murder on two adult victims by the use of a dangerous weapon while acting in concert with a co-defendant.” It is alleged that Braet and Blake (Prieto) placed a combustible material inside the residence where the victims were found, intentionally causing the fire to damage the property and potentially alter the crime scene.

The affidavits further assert that the two defendants knowingly collaborated in mutilating the victims’ bodies using fire in an attempt to conceal the murders. Additionally, Braet was reportedly in possession of a firearm during the course of events, despite being prohibited from doing so.

On January 18, Braet and Blake (Prieto) were apprehended on outstanding warrants. During their arrest, authorities found them in possession of 4.3 grams of heroin and 11 grams of methamphetamine.

Melisa M. Weber, as stated in the arrest affidavits, “aided and abetted the co-defendants in this case as they perpetrated the acts of second-degree arson and abuse of a corpse (two counts).” Weber allegedly supported the actions of the co-defendants in mutilating the victims’ bodies using fire to hide the crime, and subsequently assisted them in evading justice following the double murder.
