Agricultural Labourer’s Two-Year-Old Son Rescued After Falling Into Borewell in Jamnagar, Gujarat
In a miraculous rescue operation, a two-year-old boy, Raj Vasava, was pulled alive after being trapped in an abandoned borewell for nine hours. The incident took place on Tuesday evening in Govana village of Jamnagar’s Lalpur Block, located about 47 km south of Jamnagar city in Gujarat.

The boy, whose parents are agricultural labourers from Maharashtra, accidentally slipped into the borewell at approximately 6:30 pm while enjoying fresh gram (chickpeas) on the field. The incident prompted immediate action, with the Jamnagar Municipal Corporation’s fire personnel and health department teams rushing to the spot to rescue the child.
Collector Bhavin Pandya, along with other senior officers of the district administration, also arrived at the scene to oversee the rescue operation. Efforts to extricate the boy using hooks proved unsuccessful, leading the rescuers to opt for a parallel well digging approach.
After drilling through a hard rock for several feet, the rescuers successfully brought the child to safety at around 3:30 am. Raj Vasava was immediately rushed to G G Hospital in Jamnagar, where he is currently undergoing treatment in the pediatric department’s ICU.
Dr Nandini Desai, Medical Superintendent at G G Hospital, stated that the boy’s condition is stable, although he sustained abrasions and lacerations during the ordeal. A team of pediatric experts provided onsite primary treatment before transferring him to the hospital.
This incident marks the third time a child has fallen into a borewell in the Halara area of Gujarat’s Saurashtra region, encompassing Jamnagar and Devbhumi Dwarka districts. In June 2023, a two-year-old girl from Madhya Pradesh tragically lost her life after falling into a borewell in Tamachan village. Another incident occurred on January 1, when a two-year-old girl fell into a borewell in Ran village, Devbhumi Dwarka district, but could not be saved despite rescue efforts.
