Ludhiana: A tragic incident occurred on Monday night as a speeding car collided with a group of pedestrians before crashing into a wall on Tharike Sua road in Ludhiana. The collision resulted in the death of one individual and left at least five others with severe injuries. The pedestrians were identified as customers of a roadside tea, eggs, and paan vendor. The deceased victim was identified as Mohammad Mustakeen, a 50-year-old man from Bihar. The injured individuals include Lalit Mahato, Deepak, Manish, Avinash, and Varinder Kumar. Lalit Mahato operated the roadside vending stall. Mohammad Madish, the nephew of the deceased, stated that his uncle had visited the stall to enjoy some eggs and tea when the speeding white Maruti Suzuki Baleno car careened into Lalit’s stall. Tragically, the car ran over Mustakeen, causing his immediate death. Madish added that the car was driven by a man who was accompanied by a woman. Both fled the scene following the accident.

Additionally, Lalit Kumar’s wife, Indu Rani, corroborated the accounts of two cars racing and one of them crashing into the pedestrians at the stall. She further revealed that the police and ambulance were immediately informed. However, due to the delayed arrival of the ambulance, Lalit was rushed to the hospital in an auto-rickshaw.
Inspector Gurpreet Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Sadar police station, confirmed that a case had been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including rash driving, causing hurt, causing grievous hurt, causing death by negligence, and mischief causing damage. The accused driver has been identified as Karan. The police are currently investigating the claim that two cars were racing on the road.
