Man Charged After Girlfriend Fatally Stabbed in Grabill, Indiana

GRABILL, Ind. – A 60-year-old man from Grabill, Indiana, has been charged after his girlfriend was stabbed to death during an argument over cutting onions. The suspect, Charles Michael Calvert, was also accused of attempting to stage the crime scene before alerting the police.

According to court documents, the incident occurred on Saturday evening when Calvert called 911 around 8:30 p.m. He claimed that his girlfriend, Marsha Linsky, had attacked him with a knife, resulting in her unfortunate demise. Calvert informed the authorities that they had been arguing while both holding knives when she charged at him.

Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement officials found Calvert standing in the driveway with his hands raised and his phone in hand. Upon entering the residence, they discovered Linsky lying face down with severe head and neck wounds. Tragically, she had no pulse.

Calvert, who had been dating Linsky for approximately one year, admitted to the altercation. He claimed that the argument escalated after Linsky criticized his onion-cutting skills and became increasingly aggressive. According to court documents, in response, she shoved a slow cooker towards him and lunged at him with a knife. In self-defense, Calvert grabbed a knife as well, but he couldn’t recall further details. He requested legal representation and declined to discuss the matter further.

Officers at the scene observed dried blood on Calvert’s hands, further raising suspicions. The investigation took another turn when the police received a call from a man who identified himself as Calvert’s father. The concerned father revealed that Calvert had contacted him, confessing to harming his girlfriend and informing him of his intention to call emergency services.

Authorities obtained a search warrant and meticulously examined the crime scene. They discovered two knives on the floor, meticulously placed next to Linsky’s body, leading them to believe that they had been staged. One of the knives was stained with blood, while the other remained relatively clean. Additionally, an onion peel was found in the trash, but no chopped onions were located.

Further investigation within the residence revealed a spilled slow cooker, bloodied men’s pants and shirt, Linsky’s eyeglasses on the counter, and scuff marks on the floor indicative of a struggle. Police also discovered blood in the shower, suggesting that Calvert had showered and attempted to clean himself before contacting emergency services.

During the examination of Linsky’s body, investigators noticed multiple cuts on Calvert’s lip, along with a severe injury to her right thumb, nearly severing it. Additionally, while analyzing Calvert’s 911 call, authorities noted that he repeatedly described his girlfriend as being “very verbal” with him. Despite claiming that she was no longer breathing, Calvert appeared remarkably calm during the call, displaying no sense of urgency.

As the only individuals present in the home that evening, Calvert has been charged with one count of murder in relation to the tragic incident.
