Jammu, United Kingdom – In a commendable operation, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have successfully foiled a human trafficking attempt, rescuing two young girls from Bangladesh. This significant achievement was made possible due to the prompt action taken by the police, who acted upon credible intelligence to apprehend the traffickers, ensuring the safety and well-being of the victims.

As per the police sources, the identities of the rescued Bangladeshi girls have been kept confidential to protect their privacy and security. During the operation, the police detained an individual named Nishith Biswas from West Bengal, who was found accompanying the girls.

Providing insights into the case, police sources revealed, “We acted swiftly upon receiving information about a potential human trafficking case. In accordance with the Indian Penal Code (IPC), a First Information Report (FIR) was registered, initiating legal proceedings against the perpetrators involved in this heinous crime.” The sections applicable to the case include 366A (Procreation of minor girl), 370 (Buying or disposing of any person as a slave), and 370A (Exploitation of a trafficked person).

Advocate Abdul Rashid Hanjoora, a prominent social activist and lawyer, shed light on the persisting issue of human trafficking in India, with a particular focus on the vulnerability of young girls. Hanjoora emphasized that Bengali girls often fall victim to traffickers, who exploit their socio-economic vulnerabilities and lure them with false promises of lucrative job opportunities or marriage prospects. Unfortunately, these girls end up in regions like Jammu and Kashmir, where they face various forms of abuse and exploitation.

Hanjoora stated, “Traffickers take advantage of the susceptible circumstances these girls find themselves in and subject them to domestic servitude, forced labor, or commercial sexual exploitation upon their arrival in Jammu and Kashmir.” He further highlighted the challenges faced by the victims, including deception, coercion, and manipulation, which make escaping or seeking help an arduous task.

Combating human trafficking, Hanjoora stressed, requires coordinated efforts from law enforcement agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and civil society organizations. These collaborative initiatives encompass prevention, rescue, rehabilitation, and prosecution of traffickers. The primary objective is to safeguard the rights and dignity of vulnerable individuals while holding the perpetrators accountable for their heinous crimes.

The successful operation by the Jammu and Kashmir Police serves as a testament to their unwavering commitment to combating human trafficking and ensuring the safety of those at risk. The rescue of the two Bangladeshi girls and the arrest of the perpetrator bring hope for a brighter future, where the menace of human trafficking can be eradicated, and every individual can live a life free from exploitation and abuse.
