18-Year-Old High School Student Arrested in Connection with Robbery Resulting in Deaths of Two Individuals

SAN ANTONIO – A shocking incident unfolded in December when a robbery turned fatal, resulting in the tragic deaths of two individuals. The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) announced on Wednesday that an 18-year-old high school senior, Joshua Castro, has been arrested in connection with the crime. This arrest comes after SAPD officers escorted Castro to the Bexar County Jail.

The arrest of Castro took place at Holmes High School, according to SAPD public information officer Nick Soliz. Castro now faces charges of capital murder, marking a significant development in the ongoing investigation.

The case involved another suspect, Sebastian Toledo, who tragically took his own life on Monday night. Authorities discovered Toledo’s body in the 10000 block of Cat Mountain as they closed in on him. The death of Toledo has left investigators with unanswered questions and potential missing pieces of the puzzle.

Soliz stated that Castro and Toledo are primarily suspected in a shooting incident that took place on December 6 at the Circle K gas station. The gas station, located in the 9000 block of Potranco Road, became the site of a violent altercation that claimed the lives of two victims. However, authorities do not rule out the possibility of additional individuals being involved in the crime.

According to a previous report by KSAT, the victims, identified as Raymond Ancira, 34, and Raymond Ancira, 15, were shot inside their vehicle in front of the convenience store. Tragically, one victim succumbed to their injuries at the scene, while the other was rushed to a nearby hospital but later passed away.

The investigation into the robbery and subsequent murders uncovered crucial evidence through surveillance footage and social media. Notably, the suspect vehicle seen at the gas station matched the one featured in an online video posted by one of the suspects. Furthermore, a stolen gun was also visible in another video shared by one of the suspects.

Soliz revealed, “Detectives were able to obtain information through social media and investigative techniques, which indicated that Toledo and Castro had planned the robbery from the beginning.” This revelation sheds light on the premeditated nature of the crime.

During the course of the investigation, law enforcement agencies conducted a short standoff with Toledo at a residence on Cat Mountain. As San Antonio police and U.S. Marshals Task Force agents attempted to apprehend him, Toledo tragically took his own life.

While being escorted during a perp walk, Castro made a statement asserting his innocence. He proclaimed, “I am not a murderer” and expressed his love for his family.

Despite the progress made in the investigation, Soliz emphasized that there may be other suspects involved in the case. SAPD urges anyone with information regarding the incident to contact them at 210-207-7635.
