DENTON, Texas – Denton police are currently investigating a tragic shooting incident that took place over the weekend, claiming the life of a 16-year-old individual.

According to Fox 4 News, the incident occurred on Saturday night near Denia Park at the intersection of Roselawn Drive and Bernard Street, promptly summoning the Denton Police Department to the scene shortly after 11:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, law enforcement officers discovered the victim in the driver’s seat of a vehicle, having sustained gunshot wounds.

Emergency medical services were immediately called and the victim was rushed to the nearest hospital, but unfortunately, despite medical efforts, the 16-year-old, identified as Ely Mendez Gomez by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner, succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead.

This incident has sparked an extensive investigation by Denton police, who are currently working diligently to identify the perpetrator(s) and ascertain the motive behind this tragic shooting.

Local authorities have not made any arrests in connection with the case at this time, leaving the community on edge as they await updates from the ongoing investigation.
