Two Suspects Charged with Upgraded Murder Charges in Fatal Shooting of 16-Year-Old Bystander at Center City SEPTA Station

The victim, Tyshaun Welles, was shot on January 11 at the westbound SEPTA platform located at the 15th Street Station in Center City Philadelphia. Despite being rushed to Thomas Jefferson Hospital in critical condition, Welles sadly succumbed to his injuries later on.

The two suspects, identified as Quadir Humphrey (18) and Zaire Wilson (16), are now facing charges of murder, conspiracy, and other related offenses, as per the district attorney’s office.

The upgraded charges came after the original aggravated assault charge was revised following Welles’ tragic death.

According to investigators, the fatal shooting is believed to have originated from a disturbance involving a large group of juveniles at the SEPTA platform.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing Humphrey and Wilson engaged in a conversation at the east end of the platform. Moments later, one of the suspects, believed to be Humphrey, pulled out a gun and opened fire into the crowd, tragically hitting Welles.
