Two Men Injured and Charged After Shooting Incident in Collinsville, Virginia

Collinsville, Virginia – In a shocking incident on February 4, two men were injured and subsequently charged after exchanging gunfire at the Tobacco and Vape Shop on Virginia Avenue, as reported by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office. The incident, which occurred at around 6:42 p.m., has left the local community in disbelief.

Upon receiving several calls about shots fired, deputies from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office swiftly responded to the scene. To their surprise, they discovered a wrecked Ford Escape in a nearby Hardee’s parking lot, with visible signs of blood inside but no occupants.

Meanwhile, another distress call led authorities to a Wendy’s restaurant close by. Witnesses reported seeing two men, one of whom was bleeding, desperately seeking help. Before deputies could reach the scene, however, the men fled to a Valero gas station across the street.

At the gas station, law enforcement officers found one man unharmed, while the other, identified as 24-year-old Jamel Turner, had sustained gunshot wounds to his right arm and leg. Turner was immediately rushed to SOVAH Health of Martinsville for medical treatment. Fortunately, his injuries were deemed non-life-threatening.

Shortly after Turner’s arrival at the hospital, 22-year-old De’Rehyon Rucker also turned up at the emergency room with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his torso. It was later revealed that Rucker was involved in the exchange of gunfire at the tobacco shop.

While both men were uncooperative during the initial investigation, surveillance footage played a crucial role in shedding light on the sequence of events.

According to authorities, Turner had driven to the Tobacco and Vape Shop so that a family member could enter the store. As Turner remained in his vehicle, Rucker parked his car next to Turner’s. The surveillance footage clearly showed that as Rucker exited his vehicle to enter the store, Turner began shooting at him.

In a desperate attempt to escape, Rucker fled around the corner of the building, while Turner quickly returned to his vehicle to drive away. However, Rucker soon reappeared, armed with a pistol, and resumed shooting at Turner, who was driving his Ford Escape at the time.

The chaotic situation eventually led to Turner crashing into a power pole in the Hardee’s parking lot. Following the crash, both Turner and his family member fled the scene in a bid to evade the authorities.

As a result of their involvement in the incident, both men are now facing multiple charges. Jamel Turner has been charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. De’Rehyon Rucker, on the other hand, faces charges of malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, shooting at an occupied vehicle, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Currently, both individuals are being held without bond at the Henry County Adult Detention Center.

Authorities urge anyone with information about the incident to contact the Henry County Sheriff’s Office at 276-638-8751 or Crimestoppers at 63-CRIME (632-7463).
