The Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office has released new information regarding the investigation into the death of Kassi McColley. The 28-year-old woman from Laurel, Montana, who had been reported missing last week, has been positively identified as the deceased female found near Laurel.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Ms. McColley was last heard from on the evening of January 31, 2024. The autopsy results revealed that her injuries were consistent with being struck by a motor vehicle. Investigators have determined that the vehicle involved in the incident is believed to be a silver 2017-2022 Chevrolet TRAX.

During the investigation, Sheriff’s Detectives recovered several pieces of evidence at the scene, including the external passenger (right-side) mirror and the molding from the right-front wheel well or fender. These items have helped provide valuable leads in the search for the suspect vehicle.

Based on the evidence collected, it is believed that Ms. McColley was likely struck between shortly after 10:00 pm and 11:00 pm on the night of January 31, 2024. The Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office is urging the public to come forward with any information that may assist in locating the suspect vehicle or provide additional details relevant to the investigation.

Additionally, the Sheriff’s Office is specifically requesting assistance from individuals who have security cameras with coverage of Hwy 10 East, particularly in the area near Milwaukee Avenue. Anyone who has not yet contacted the Sheriff’s Office is urged to review their video footage from 10:00 pm to 11:00 pm on Wednesday, January 31, to determine if they captured any footage of the described vehicle or individuals walking near the road.

Prior to this update, the Yellowstone County Sheriff’s Office had initially responded to a report of a deceased individual near Seitz Ronan Rd and Old Hwy. 10 East on Sunday, Feb 4, 2024. The identity of the deceased was initially unknown, and the circumstances surrounding the death were unclear. However, due to the unknowns, the Sheriff’s Office Detectives were called in to investigate the incident as a possible homicide.

The body was transported to the Morgue in Billings for an autopsy, which will be conducted in the near future. While a tentative identification has been made, the positive identification will be released after the autopsy.

In a separate incident, authorities in Laurel, Montana, are conducting a search for a missing woman. Kassi McColley, 28, has not been heard from or seen since February 1. Concerns have been raised due to her health problems.

The Laurel Police Department (LPD) reported on Facebook that McColley’s phone is either turned off or out of battery. According to LPD, when she was last spoken to, she mentioned that she was walking in Laurel.

McColley is described as 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing 150 pounds, and has blue eyes and brown hair.
