The owners were also given an opportunity to explain their actions. Several properties seemed to have added basements, while many had extended their gardens onto government-owned slopes. It is crucial for the authorities to follow up on these findings. Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu responded to the investigation by promising to crack down on illegal structures, with a focus on those posing the biggest safety risks.
