BLOOMINGTON, Ind. Resident Tragically Killed in Two-Vehicle Collision

A heartbreaking incident occurred on Tuesday morning as a Monroe County man lost his life when his pickup truck was struck by another vehicle at an intersection just outside of Bloomington, Indiana State Police have reported.

The victim has been identified as 66-year-old John Skirvin, a well-known resident of Bloomington.

Emergency responders, including state troopers and Monroe County Sheriff’s Department deputies, swiftly arrived at the scene following a distress call regarding a two-vehicle accident. The incident took place at the intersection of South Garrison Chapel Road and West Gardner Road around 8:06 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

This tragic occurrence unfolded in Van Buren Township, located just to the west of Bloomington, Indiana.

Upon reaching the accident site, officers were confronted with a devastating sight – two pick-up trucks severely damaged from the impact. Preliminary investigations have revealed that Skirvin, driving a vibrant red and black 1996 GMC Sonoma, was travelling east on West Gardner Road. As he approached the T-intersection, a white 1995 Ford F150, driven by 38-year-old Joshua Scroggins of Bloomington, collided with Skirvin’s vehicle from the south.

Despite the valiant efforts of the emergency responders, Skirvin succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following standard protocol in the case of a fatal accident, Scroggins was immediately transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital for medical treatment and to undergo a blood draw as mandated by Indiana state law.
