The incident took place on February 3, around 1:30 a.m., when Sanchez called the police himself, expressing his desire to surrender as he had killed his wife at their residence on Chantilly Avenue. Officers promptly responded to the call and found Sanchez waiting in the driveway, where he was apprehended. Upon further investigation, the authorities discovered the lifeless body of Veronica Cortes-Rosales, Sanchez’s wife, in the garage, which had been converted into a bedroom.

Tragically, Cortes-Rosales was found lying in bed, covered with a blanket, amidst a substantial pool of blood. Medical professionals were called to the scene but sadly declared her dead upon arrival. The couple had three young daughters who were present in the house during the incident.

According to the police report, Sanchez disclosed that he had been married to Cortes-Rosales since 1999 and had been residing in the same house for approximately seven years. Alongside their three young daughters, Sanchez’s adult son and daughter-in-law also lived with them.

Sanchez claimed that his wife had been displaying behavioral changes for the past three to four months, leading him to suspect that she was having an affair with a coworker. However, he failed to provide any concrete evidence to support his allegation, stating that her lack of affection towards him and late-night texting were the only factors that fueled his suspicion. Sanchez confessed to forcefully taking his wife’s phone on one occasion, which made her visibly nervous. However, he admitted to never actually going through her messages. The report also mentioned Sanchez’s admission of spying on Cortes-Rosales while she was at work, but he claimed to have witnessed only normal social interactions.

Revealing his actions leading up to the incident, Sanchez stated that on February 2, he borrowed a friend’s vehicle to keep an eye on Cortes-Rosales while she was at work. He parked nearby with his cousin and observed her car. When Cortes-Rosales finished her shift, she spent a few minutes in her car before leaving the parking lot and driving home.

Upon returning home, Sanchez found his wife lying in bed with their 5-year-old daughter. An argument ensued between them, during which Sanchez, before getting into bed, retrieved a hunting knife and placed it in a trunk beside him. Sanchez attempted to embrace his wife from behind multiple times, but she pushed him away, which ultimately caused him to lose control.

Sanchez confessed to stabbing Cortes-Rosales once in the back, and when she tried to scream, he told her to “shut the [expletive] up,” fearing she would wake their children. He then stabbed her a second time in the neck but noticed blood spreading towards their daughter. In order to protect the child, Sanchez covered his wife’s body with a blanket and moved his daughter to a different bed. Subsequently, he called his cousin, admitting to his crime and requesting assistance in relocating his daughter to another room. Sanchez then dialed the police.

In a disturbing revelation, Sanchez confessed that the incidents involving cuddling and the fabricated car breakdown story were “tests.” He claimed that if Cortes-Rosales had responded positively to his affection, he would not have resorted to killing her.

Moises Sanchez currently faces charges of open murder and first-degree murder with the use of a deadly weapon. He is being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center.
