Former School Resource Officer Arrested for Alleged Inappropriate Sexual Contact with a Teen

ORLANDO, Fla. – A former school resource officer, Christian Linan, 34, has been arrested on charges of having “inappropriate sexual contact” with a teenage girl. Linan, who had served as a school resource officer at Dunnellon High School for a year and a half, was taken into custody following an investigation by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the authorities, the investigation was initiated after a former student, who is now an adult, disclosed her relationship with Linan to a counselor. The victim alleged that she had engaged in sexual activities with Linan multiple times starting in 2019 when she was only 15 years old.

Following an interview with Linan, detectives gathered enough evidence to support the charges against him. He now faces four counts of lewd or lascivious battery on a juvenile victim.

Sheriff Billy Woods expressed his disappointment, stating, “Every day, I have a thousand employees working hard and doing what’s right. So it hurts each one of us when someone does something like this and casts a shadow over the good that the rest of these deputies are doing.”

Florida Lawmakers Propose Potency Limits for Marijuana

As the possibility of recreational marijuana legalization in Florida draws nearer, state lawmakers are considering imposing limits on the THC content in cannabis products. The latest proposed bill, HB 1269, approved by a House Subcommittee, aims to cap the THC concentration at 30% for smokable marijuana and 60% for other forms, excluding edibles.

Similar efforts were made in the past, where a bill attempting to limit THC in smokable medical marijuana failed to gain support in the Senate. The current bill would only apply to marijuana products sold for nonmedical use. A Senate Committee is set to review a similar bill, SPB 7050.

Florida Tops the List for Shark Attacks in the US

According to a new report from the University of Florida, Florida continues to hold the unfortunate distinction of being the state with the most shark attacks in the US. The International Shark Attack File recorded 16 unprovoked shark bites in Florida last year, accounting for almost a quarter of the 69 reported attacks worldwide.

Volusia County witnessed eight shark bites, while Brevard recorded two incidents. To minimize the risk of shark encounters, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission advises individuals to stay in groups, avoid venturing too far from shore, and refrain from entering the water if bleeding or having open wounds.
