A lifeless body has been discovered in a lake in Austin, Texas, where multiple bodies have been found in recent years. This unsettling discovery adds to the growing number of mysterious deaths in the area.

On Monday, a concerned individual contacted the Austin Police Department at 1:31 pm, reporting a possible dead body in Lady Bird Lake, located at the 300 block of W Cesar Chavez Street. Senior Police Officer Ariel Crumes confirmed the incident during a press conference held yesterday.

The caller indicated that the body was located approximately 20 feet into the water on the lake’s north side. Responding officers arrived swiftly at 1:33 pm and officially declared the individual deceased, as stated by Ms. Crumes.

At the time of the press conference, the police had not yet identified the body, as the recovery process was still underway. Ms. Crumes emphasized that the investigation was in its early stages, and the scene remained active.

Jaydon Wolf, a concerned friend searching for his missing companion, visited the lake after hearing the news. He disclosed his friend’s disappearance since Saturday night after a night out at bars, as reported by Fox 7.

Lady Bird Lake has witnessed several similar incidents in recent years. According to KXAN statistics, five bodies were discovered in 2023, followed by four in 2022.

This latest discovery marks the tenth body found in the lake since July 2022, as reported by the aforementioned outlet.

The increasing number of deaths linked to the same lake led to speculations of a potential serial killer last year. However, the police dispelled these rumors, stating that there was no evidence to support such claims.

This recent discovery follows last year’s string of bodies found in the same lake.

“While there are allegations of a serial killer, none of our investigations have produced any evidence to support such claims,” stated APD Assistant Chief Jeff Greenwalt in an interview with KXAN in April last year.

Following the recovery of 33-year-old Jonathan Honey’s body from Lady Bird Lake in April 2023, the Austin Police Department addressed the speculation surrounding connected cases.

“There is no evidence in any of these cases to suggest foul play,” the police department stated in a tweet last year.

Although the incidents occurred in the same location, the police emphasized that the circumstances, exact locations, and demographics of the cases varied.

However, the police did identify a common element among the cases: “The combination of alcohol and easy access to Lady Bird Lake.”

They highlighted the lake’s numerous access points, which can pose challenges, especially at night.

Prior to this recent incident, the last recovery from the lake occurred in June and was identified as Mogga Dogale, as reported by KXAN. The police did not treat the death as a homicide.

The Independent has reached out to the Austin Police Department for further information regarding this case.
