Washington Township Police Arrest Two Individuals for Shoplifting and Weapons Possession

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – In a recent incident, Washington Township police successfully apprehended two individuals involved in alleged shoplifting on Saturday, with one of them found in possession of illegal weapons.

The incident unfolded on February 3, when officers promptly responded to a report of an ongoing shoplifting at the Target store located on Route 46 in Washington Township. Upon arrival, the officers came face-to-face with two males who were later identified as a 37-year-old and a 40-year-old hailing from Miami Gardens, FL, according to the authorities.

During the course of their arrest, one of the suspects was discovered carrying a loaded handgun, which is considered illegal. The Washington Township Police, in collaboration with their detectives, further investigated the matter and obtained crucial information that the same individual possessed an assault weapon and high-capacity magazines at their Airbnb.

The illegal assault weapon was promptly seized by the police, leading to additional charges being filed against the suspect. The accused was not only charged with shoplifting and conspiracy but also with unlawful possession of a handgun, unlawful possession of hollow point bullets, unlawful possession of an assault weapon, and unlawful possession of high-capacity magazines.

The individual charged solely with shoplifting and conspiracy was released pending a court appearance, while the other suspect, facing multiple charges related to weapons possession, was remanded to the Morris County Correctional Facility.
