DALE COUNTY — In a daring operation, an Alabama State Trooper responded swiftly to a distress call reporting a knife-wielding individual threatening people at a local bank in Ozark on Monday. Senior Trooper Kendra R. McKinney of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency has provided details of the incident.

Knife-wielding suspect at Ozark bank

identified as Boyd Douglas Phillips, a 47-year-old resident of Ozark, the suspect was confronted by the trooper, triggering a high-speed chase throughout the city. The pursuit eventually led to the 100 block of Hub Street, where Phillips sought refuge inside a nearby residence, barricading himself.

Recognizing the severity of the situation, ALEA SWAT swiftly coordinated with local law enforcement agencies, assembling a team to handle the standoff.

“During the course of the incident, officers with ALEA SWAT were forced to discharge their firearms, fatally wounding Phillips,” stated McKinney. “Fortunately, no officers sustained any injuries during the operation.”

The investigation into the incident is currently underway, and all pertinent details will be handed over to the Dale County District Attorney’s Office upon its completion.
