Following the incident, a postmortem examination conducted by the Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that the cause of death was multiple stab wounds, ruling the manner of death as a homicide. Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald commended the investigators assigned to the case, stating that they worked tirelessly to identify a suspect in the crime. Currently, the nature of the relationship between Shroitman and the victim remains unclear.

Mary Rose Fealey, as described in an online obituary, was a multifaceted individual, known as a visual artist, anti-drug activist, entrepreneur, champion of the underdog, philanthropist, encourager, writer, and logistician. On Sunday, detectives obtained a warrant to search Shroitman’s home and vehicle. NJ.com reported that security camera footage captured a man matching Shroitman’s description near the crime scene on the day of the incident. However, the suspect declined to cooperate with authorities. Notably, police discovered a black gaiter and duct tape in his car, as well as bloodstains in various areas of his apartment. Additionally, the car was found to be drenched in bleach, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

Allegedly, Shroitman left a murder manifesto in his apartment, outlining the steps he intended to take to carry out the killing. As a result, he was arrested on Monday and now faces charges of first-degree murder, possession of a weapon, tampering with physical evidence, and hindering apprehension. Currently, he remains detained at the Somerset County jail pending a detention hearing.
