NIA Chargesheets 12 Bangladeshi Nationals in Human Trafficking Case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has recently filed charges against 12 Bangladeshi nationals in a significant human trafficking case. The accused individuals, including Mohammed Ferdous Bapari, Muhammed Oli Ullah, Amol Das, Masud Sarder, Mohammed Sohag Gazi, Suman Shaik, Sheikh Mohammed Bellal, Mohammed Mirazul Islam, Zakir Khan, Mohammed Badal Houladar, Mohammed Kabir Talukder, Gharami Mohamad Bashir Hosen, and Saudi Zakir, are believed to be involved in the infiltration and trafficking of foreign nationals into India through the porous Indo-Bangladesh border.

The NIA has stated that these individuals illegally entered India without valid travel documents and subsequently acquired fraudulent Indian identity documents. Investigations conducted by the NIA have revealed that the accused were trafficked through various border points, including Benapole and Jashore near West Bengal, as well as Akhaura near Tripura, with the assistance of touts operating on both sides of the border.

Further investigations have unveiled that eight of the accused were also involved in trafficking several other Bangladeshi nationals using similar methods. The NIA has identified a total of 22 victims so far, who were enticed into India with false promises of employment and a better life.

According to the NIA, the victims paid touts along the border to facilitate their entry into India and were directed to reach Bengaluru. Once they arrived at the traffickers’ waste segregation godowns in the city, they were subjected to forced labor for minimal wages and were confined in specially constructed sheds. Those who dared to protest were threatened with arrest on charges of illegal immigration.

The NIA’s searches of the premises belonging to the 12 accused individuals, as well as two absconding suspects identified as Mohammed Sahajlal Haldar and Idrish, resulted in the seizure of 61 Aadhaar cards and other fraudulently obtained Indian identity documents. Investigations to unravel the modus operandi employed for procuring these documents are currently underway. Moreover, efforts to apprehend the absconding accused are actively being pursued by the NIA.

This development sheds light on the disturbing issue of human trafficking and the exploitation of vulnerable individuals seeking a better future. The NIA’s relentless efforts to bring the culprits to justice serve as a testament to their commitment in combating such crimes and ensuring the safety and well-being of individuals within India’s borders.
