Central Valley Woman Dies in Single-Car Crash in North San Jose

SAN JOSE — A tragic incident occurred in North San Jose on Saturday, resulting in the death of a Central Valley woman in a single-car crash. Authorities are now seeking the whereabouts of the male driver who fled the scene following the accident.

The San Jose Police Department received a distress call at 5:41 p.m. reporting an incident at the intersection of Piedmont and Sierra roads. Preliminary investigations revealed that a white 2006 BMW sedan, traveling north on Piedmont, suddenly veered off the roadway. The vehicle collided with a light pole and a tree, causing significant damage.

Regrettably, one of the passengers sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital. Tragically, the individual succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead. The deceased has been identified as Rosa Magaly Zapata, a 30-year-old resident of Turlock, according to the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.

A thorough examination conducted by the San Jose Police Department concluded that the male adult driver chose to flee the scene of the accident. Law enforcement agencies are actively seeking information regarding the whereabouts and identity of the driver, although a physical description has not yet been released to the public.

Weather conditions were determined to have played no role in the crash, as reports indicate that only light rain was falling at the time of the incident. This suggests that other factors may have contributed to the tragic outcome. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the collision to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.

Tragically, this fatal crash marks the seventh traffic-related death in San Jose in the year 2024. The alarming frequency of such incidents underscores the need for increased road safety awareness and responsible driving.
