Car Plunges into Satluj River

SHIMLA: A tourist from Tamil Nadu sustained injuries, while another is currently missing after the car they were traveling in met with an accident and plunged into the Satluj River at Kashang Nullah in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh on Sunday afternoon. The car driver, a resident of Spiti, unfortunately, lost his life in the incident. Local authorities have initiated a search operation to locate the missing tourist, while the injured individual has been referred to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in Shimla for further treatment.

According to the available information, the two tourists from Tamil Nadu had visited the Spiti Valley and were returning from Kaza on Sunday. While passing near Pangi Nala in Kinnaur district during the afternoon, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to fall into the Satluj River. The driver and one tourist from Tamil Nadu fell into the river, while another tourist landed on the riverbank and suffered severe injuries.

DSP Kinnaur, Naveen Jhalta, stated that the accident occurred at Kashang Nala (NH-05) at around 1:30 pm on Sunday. An Innova Car with the registration number HP-01AA-1111 rolled down the national highway and ended up in the Satluj River.

He further added that Gopi Nath, a 32-year-old resident of Palayam, Vellakovil Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, sustained injuries in the accident. Initially, he was admitted to Regional Hospital, Reckong Peo, and later referred to Indira Gandhi Medical College in Shimla for advanced medical care. Another tourist from Tamil Nadu, Vetri Duraisamy, aged 45 and a resident of 1st Main Road CIT Nagar Nandanam, Chennai, is currently missing. The body of the car driver, identified as Tenzin and a resident of Tabo, was recovered from the river in the late evening. The police are actively investigating the case and are making efforts to locate the missing tourist.
