Rapper Killer Mike Detained by Los Angeles Police After Grammy Wins

Moments after achieving tremendous success at the 2024 Grammy Awards, renowned rapper Killer Mike found himself in an unexpected situation. Following his triumphant victories in three major categories at the pre-show Premiere Ceremony, where he won Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, and Best Rap Album, the artist was handcuffed and detained by the Los Angeles Police on Sunday. The incident occurred at the Crypto.com Arena, leaving his team bewildered and confused. (Watch video above)

Several hours later, the Los Angeles Police Department released a statement on Twitter, providing some clarity on the situation. According to their statement, a man was detained around 4 pm due to a physical altercation that took place at the 700 block of Chick Hearn Court, the location of the Crypto.com Arena. The statement confirmed that the suspect was arrested and transported to LAPD Central Division. The LAPD later revealed that Killer Mike, whose real name is Michael Render, was being released after being booked on a charge of misdemeanor battery.

As of now, representatives for Killer Mike and the Grammy Awards have not issued any comments regarding the incident.

Backstage at the event, Killer Mike shared his thoughts on age and personal growth. He expressed, “The only thing that limits your age is not being truthful about your age or what you’re doing.” The artist, whose career has spanned several decades, reflected on his past experiences, saying, “At 20 years old, I thought it was cool to be a drug dealer. At 40, I started to live with the regrets and the things I’ve done. At 45, I started to rap about it. At 48, I stand here as a man full of empathy and sympathy for the things I’ve done.”

Killer Mike’s achievements at the Grammy Awards included winning Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for his track “Scientists & Engineers,” as well as securing the coveted Best Rap Album award for his album “Michael.” These victories marked his first Grammy wins in over twenty years.
