West Haven Resident Injured in Confrontation with Car Thief

WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WFSB) – A West Haven resident sustained injuries after bravely confronting a man attempting to steal his car. The incident occurred on Lawncrest Road Ext. late Friday night.

According to the local police, they received a distress call at 11:05 p.m., reporting a physical altercation between two men involving a firearm. The caller, who witnessed the incident, promptly alerted the authorities.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers interviewed the victim, who explained that he had been warming up his car in his driveway when an unknown man sneaked into his vehicle and drove away. Determined not to let the thief get away, the victim embarked on a pursuit, aware that the road ahead was a dead end.

As the victim and the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Miguel Roman, confronted each other at the dead end, Roman resorted to violence, striking the victim in the face with a pistol.

After the assault, Roman fled the scene on foot, leaving the victim in need of medical attention. The injured resident was quickly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Thanks to the swift action of the police, Roman was located with the assistance of a police K9 unit. Realizing the imminent danger, Roman surrendered to the authorities upon spotting the K9.

During the search, the K9 also discovered a BB gun, a ski mask, and various other items in close proximity to where Roman was apprehended. These findings further raised concerns regarding the suspect’s intentions and potential criminal activities.

Miguel Roman now faces multiple charges, including robbery, assault with a firearm, and carrying a dangerous weapon, among others. The seriousness of the charges resulted in him being held on a substantial bond of $150,000.

The West Haven Police Department emphasizes the importance of promptly reporting any suspicious activities to prevent such incidents and ensure the safety of the community. They commend the bravery of the victim in their attempt to protect their property.
