ATLANTA (WANF/Gray News) – The family of an 8-year-old girl from Georgia is left devastated after she tragically lost her life when she was struck by a car while attempting to board her school bus.

The Georgia State Patrol confirmed the unfortunate incident on Saturday, as reported by WANF. According to state troopers, the young girl was crossing Jackson Lake Road in Henry County on Thursday morning when a Ford Fusion collided with her, causing critical injuries. She was immediately flown to Egleston Children’s Hospital in Atlanta for treatment.

Authorities investigating the incident have revealed that the school bus had deployed its stop sign and activated its red flashing lights at the time of the accident. Regrettably, the driver of the Ford Fusion, identified as 25-year-old Kaylee Andre, reportedly failed to acknowledge these warning signals, leading to the tragic collision.

Following the incident, Kaylee Andre was apprehended and subsequently booked in Henry County Jail. She now faces charges including first-degree homicide by vehicle, failure to stop for a school bus loading and unloading, and failure to exercise due care.

The local community, along with acquaintances of the 8-year-old victim, have come together to pay their respects. On Jackson Lake Road, a makeshift memorial adorned with flowers has been set up.

Jeff Lockridge, a neighbor who also has a daughter of his own, expressed his condolences to the family.
